What is Medical Coding? Medical coding is the use of numerical values or medical coding terminology to transcribe information such as the diagnosis and procedures for medical reports, health information summaries and insurance forms. In essence, the medical coder paints a picture of the medical treatments of a patient in a universal language understood both nationally and internationally. Medical coding technicians must have a thorough knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy. Program OverviewIn this program you will learn the CPT and ICD-9-COM coding systems. You will also learn the history, principles and overview of all current procedures and codes. Emphasis is on the application of coding skills to be used in any and all medical situations and facilities with a full understanding of every area of need. It also includes the latest ICD-9-CM and CPT coding conventions and guidelines plus some medical terminology and CCA/CCS information. Building on your existing medical background we will give you everything you need to become a successful Medical Coder.
