How long you are in school to become an RN is based on multiple factors. Do you have any of your prerequisites done or are you entering a program starting from scratch? Are you going to attend a traditional University or take a nontraditional route?

What you need to do first is decide which route is conducive to your learning style and your lifestyle before you can accurately figure how long it will take you. If you want to attend a traditional University you are looking at a two year minimum once you get into the program. (Most Universities have a waiting list just as long as the program so you’ll need to factor that in.) You might be able to shave a semester off of your time in the program though if you are coming in with some of your prerequisites completed. Most LPN programs require Psychology and English. If you took your LPN at an accredited school then they should transfer into your RN school. Don’t assume though, that your LPN school was accredited just because they said they were. It’s best to call up the University and ask if they accept credits from “XYZ” LPN school.

Another option for schooling, if you feel you are a self motivated person, is a study from home program or an online program. You may be able to finish in less than two years being that it is self paced but be realistic with your time frame. Keep in mind it is going to be difficult to keep yourself on track. You may start out strong but life tends to get in the way. Before you know it your books are covered in dust and your three years into your “two year” program.

If you don’t have the time for a full time program or don’t want to be wait listed to get into a University but you still want the acceleration of a distance learning program, Kaylim Career Center might be the program for you. It blends the best of both worlds. A non-traditional program in what feels like a traditional setting. You study focused study guides that teach you just what need to know versus having to read a stack of textbooks. 150 pages or 500 pages of reading, it’s your call. Plus you get the classroom time with an instructor, classmates and a schedule to keep yourself on track. With class just once a week though, you will be able to squeeze it in to your busy life. At Kaylim Career Center there is no waiting list so you can start today and know for sure that when we say you will be done in as little as 12 months we mean it.
