English Composition

Course Length: 4 weeks (approximately 16 hours)

A two-semester course in freshman level English Composition. The exam consists of three essay questions that measure:

1) the student’s ability to write a persuasive essay

2) to analyze and respond to material that presents an opposing viewpoint

3) to analyze and evaluate a written essay.

Proposal writing is the persuasive essay and will require students to use their experience and knowledge to encourage the reader to pursue a course of action. For the analysis and response essay, two texts will be presented, each showing opposing viewpoints, and the student will write an essay that will either support one author, find a compromise or suggest a resolution. The writing sample response requires that the student assess the strengths and weaknesses of the text provided.
